Santa Fail - 2013

John Thomas' school, thankfully, has Santa come and they take a photo with each child.  We have yet to venture out and do real Santa photos!  Here is his picture from Tiny Town this year.  Every time I look at it, I just laugh - he is obviously terrified!

His photo last year was much calmer!  Maybe 2014 will be our year for a good smiling Santa photo!

Maternity and Family Photos

A few weeks ago, we were able to have family and a few maternity type photos taken.  Definitely a challenge with a 22 month old who refused to take photos with the family, but Brynne Owen did a great job!

Hard to believe our family of five will soon grow to a family of six!

Weenie Roast!

Thanksgiving weekend we were able to go out to Ken and Mandy's land right outside of town to have a weenie roast with all the kiddos!  The boys were such big helpers helping their daddies gather firewood and stack it up before they built the fire!  We had hotdogs with all the trimmings and s'mores!  It was a great night with family and cousins, and the weather was perfect!

I didn't get any pictures of the girls, it was dark and my phone wouldn't take very good photos after that, but they do a great job of keeping up with these fast paced boys!

Christmas in Mexico Shoeboxes

Every year our church participates in Christmas in Mexico.  Very similar to the ministry of Samaritan's Purse, where you fill a shoe box sized container with toys, toiletries and a story of the love of Jesus. Our family has always enjoyed taking Koen to select an child based on age and gender and let him choose the items we send to that child taking time to talk about all the blessings that we take for granted and how each item we send might impact their life.  This year it was twice as fun, because I got to take John Thomas as well!  I realize that he probably doesn't have any idea what we are actually doing, but instilling a heart of service and giving in our children is a top priority in our home, so I don't think we can ever start too early!

36 Week Pregnancy Survey - NINE months!

How Far Along: 36 weeks

Size of baby: A Melon! (
Average size:  17.2 to 18.7 inches, 4.2-5.8 lbs)

Total Weight Gain/Loss:  5 lbs this month
! (35 total) I have gained the exact amount at the same time as I did with John Thomas!

Maternity Clothes: Mixed with Kris' shirts, they are SO comfy, I even took over a pair of his pajama pants last week!

Gender: Sweet baby GIRL! Ruby Caroline

Movement: Her movement has slowed down a lot, my doctor confirmed she is running out of room!

What I miss:
Getting comfortable!  It seems most ways I sit, lay or stand are all uncomfortable!

Sleep:   I have good nights and not so great nights, and lots of crazy dreams.  The most recent was I dreamed I delivered her myself, couldn't get Kris to wake up and she ended up being 9 lbs 6.75 ounces, had a head full of dark black hair and little squinty dark eyes! HA!

Symptoms: Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions and some ba
ck labor!

Cravings: For the first time in my whole pregnancy, food is just so-so, I think in part, due to the fact that I just don't have a lot of room left!

Best Moment this week (month): We are on weekly visits to the doctor now, and on Monday, I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced!  She let us know quickly that she could feel her head and my body is ready for her anytime, or I could walk around like this for a couple more weeks.  Personally, I am hoping for the latter!

What we are looking forward to: Christmas and finally getting to meet her sweet face!  This will most likely be my last update, the next one should have her birth story!

Photo taken at 37 weeks!

Thanksgiving 2013

We spent Thanksgiving at Pa Pa and Gran Gran's house with most of the family, ate too much, sat and talked, and most of all just relaxed!  There are so many little ones running here and there, hard to believe it all started with Pa Pa and Gran Gran! There was a lot of love to go around!

I forgot my camera, but Aunt Cathy took these of the kiddos while they played.  You can tell how joyful they are to all be together!

This year has been one that we have so much to be thankful for!  A healthy, happy family, new baby on the way, many blessings beyond what we deserve!

Big Boy Bed!

For a few months we have planned on moving John Thomas into a big boy bed.  With Ruby coming soon, we decided that we would go ahead and try to move him and see how it worked out, knowing that if it didn't we wouldn't be using the crib for a few more months anyway.  The crib is very special, because my dad made it and I couldn't  think of getting a different one for her!

As we started the nursery, I went ahead and ordered his bed.  We decided on a bunk bed, with a full bed on the bottom and a twin on the top so we would have extra beds as we have a full house when our family comes in and didn't want anyone to have to sleep on the sofa or an air mattress.  We moved the queen bed from the guest room into John Thomas' room with his new bunk bed, so we didn't lose any bed space, but actually gained!

We set it up a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, but needed to get rails to make sure he didn't fall off the side.  Those came in the week before Thanksgiving, so Monday night before, he spent his first night in his new bed!  He had been playing on it and loved showing people, but we were not sure he knew he would actually be sleeping all night in there!
We all put him to bed and said his prayers and just like that he laid down and said, "Night, night Daddy,  night, night Mama, love you."

I went back and got in our bed and watched the monitor forever, but he never made a peep and went to sleep.  I admit, I cried a little, some sad tears because he is getting so big, but also proud ones because he is so independent and grown up.

Prayers with Daddy before the first night in his new bed!

My monitor view from our room.  The second head to the right is Curious George, Aunt Dionne gave it to him for his new bed! He sleeps with him every night!
The next morning he woke up at normal time and started to get out of bed!
Daddy picked up donuts and we had a celebration breakfast for his first night!
The next weekend we started moving the crib out and queen bed into his room, and he and Koen read books on his bed while we moved things around.
Before we knew it, John Thomas had climbed up in his bed alone while we were still moving things in and out and had fallen asleep!  He stayed this way the whole time, even through me vacuuming!
Since then, he has slept every night and every nap in his bed with no problems.  In the mornings when he gets up, he climbs out of bed, opens his door, shuts it and waits at the gate for us to come get him.  Never once has he gotten up during the night or cried when we put him down! I think he likes all the new space he gets!

John Thomas, you are such a big boy and we couldn't be more proud of you! Your strong will and independence are two traits, although challenging at times, are ones we wouldn't trade for anything!  You are growing up too fast, little man!
