Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband and great Daddy!

I am so thankful for Kris and the unconditional love he shows for us!  He is a great father and we are lucky to call him ours!  Whether he is working hard to provide for his family, taking time to listen about a spelling test or baseball game or rodeo, tickling until there are tears and uncontrollable laughter, playing in the water at bath time, or saying bedtime prayers he takes each moment and makes it special.  Thank you, honey, for being the husband and father to our kids I prayed so hard for!  We love you so much!

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. -Proverbs 22:6

Happy Father's Day also to my Dad!  I am blessed with a father who I still can count on even 1,000 miles away.  Each day as a new parent, I am thankful for the values he instilled in me and only hope I can do the same! Love you, Daddy!

4 Months!

John Thomas,

You are a quarter of a year old and still blessing our lives each and every day with your bright eyes and dimples!

Here are some of the things you have been doing this month:

  • Almost sitting up on your own,  you can sit for a short bit in your "tripod" position
  • You screech loudly in response to talking!
  • Went swimming for the first time and loved it!  The water was very chilly and you never made a peep!
  • You have started playing with toys and love your football that Daddy bought you!
  • Figured out that if you scratch your fingernails on different textures they make funny noises!  You are mesmerized by them!
  • Can find your paci and put it back in when you want it.

You moved up to size 3 diapers.  You are now wearing all 3-6 month clothes!

Your hair is getting longer and is still very blonde! I don't think you have lost any, you just seem to be getting more! You still have the bluest, brightest eyes! That makes Mommy happy!

You went for your 4 month checkup and you weigh 15 lbs and are 24.5" tall.  You had shots and did great, only cried for a few seconds.

You love to chew on anything that you can get to your mouth! You love to be read to and will watch each page as we read!

You are doing great in your crib, but still not sleeping through the night! We hope every night that you will, but so far, no luck!
You love holding on to your blankets and you silk them against your face when you are tired!  I love watching you clutch your monkey when it's nap time! You always want both when you are tired.

You love your brother so much and will watch him while he does pretty much anything!  You also love Karson, and get lots of snuggles when she comes to visit!
Your schedule is still almost the same:
Wake up between 6 and 7:30
7:30 eat
8:00-9:00 play while mommy gets ready for work and eats breakfast
9:00-10:30 nap
10:30 eat
11:00-12:30 play, read books, swing
12:30-1:30 nap
1:30 eat
2:00-3:30 ish playtime
4:00-30 ish eat
4:30-6:00 wait for Daddy to get home to play
6:00 - eat
6:30-7:30 sit with us while we prepare and eat dinner
7:30 - bathtime
8:00 - you have started to get fussy again around this time and recently let us know you are ready for your bedtime to be moved up from 9:00!
8:30 - eat and bedtime

Nights have become somewhat unpredictable this month, we aren't sure if you are starting to teeth or are having a major growth spurt!  Sometimes you will sleep until 3:30 or 4:00am, and sometimes you are up between 1:00 am and 2:30 am!  We just never know and hope to get you figured out soon!  Lots of people tell me you will sleep eventually ;)

We love you very, very much and cannot kiss you or snuggle you enough! The changes and things you learn each day amaze us and we can't wait to watch you learn more and more! Thank you for each day you make so special!

Love, Mommy and Daddy

Bucket List - #1 - Run a 5K

I have always wanted to run a 5K.

Now mind you, I do not enjoy running, or working out for that matter.  I have always been the type that wanted to see results with any manual type labor or exercise I perform.  I don't mind mowing the yard, planting flowers, cleaning house etc., but running on a treadmill or outside without "producing" anything has never been of interest to me. My roommate and best friend from college, Abby, always ran throughout college and after (she just completed her first marathon!!) but I never had the desire to join her!

However, since having John Thomas, I had some extra baby weight that I wanted to lose, so I started out doing Weight Watchers.  It was the only "diet", and I use that word loosely, that I could do safely and still nurse John Thomas.  Once I started losing the extra baby weight, things were still not going back to the places they were before (my mother reminds me, they never will :)) so I decided, with a little gentle peer pressure from my friend, Ashley, that I would start going with her to a local church twice a week to participate in an exercise class.  Much to my surprise, I REALLY enjoyed going.  It wasn't a typical step class or all cardio, but combined cardio with strength training and the hour flew by!  Finally I could say I was beginning to enjoy working out!

During the class, I had mentioned a few times that I wanted to do a 5K before John Thomas turned a year old, and Ashley and my friend Crystal encouraged me to sign up for one to motivate me to go through with it.  Now I am sure when they told me that, they assumed I would sign up for a race that was a little farther in the future.  However, on some type of adrenaline rush one morning after class I signed up for one that was a little less than 4 weeks away.

Crystal, Ashley and I - my motivators :)

I immediately started Couch to 5K and, much to my surprise, I was able to finish the entire 5K without walking and beat my goal time!

It was by far one of my proudest moments so far!  There were many mornings I would come back from running and tell Kris that I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish.  He was extremely encouraging, each time reminding me that I could do it!

Before the race began I was a little nervous, but once we started the 3.1 miles flew by!  I have signed up for a virtual half marathon relay at the end of July, so hopefully I will be able to complete it without walking as well!

The boys, John Thomas and Bronson, before the race.  This was Bronson's first 5K!  John Thomas stayed behind with Kris, I am not ready for running with him!

The race was to benefit and honor 6 year old, Nate, who is battling a rare form of brain and spine cancer.  It was such an inspiration to run with him!  He completed the entire race!  Kris snapped this picture of him starting the race!  Read his story here, Nate's Story

Starting the race....
Finishing the race...

Who wouldn't want to come back and squeeze this chubby boy?

Thank you, Ashley and Crystal, for inspiring me :) maybe, just maybe, I'll keep it up!

Rockwall Founder's Day

A couple of weekends ago we got up early and ventured downtown to Rockwall's Founder's Day festival.  We started out with a yummy breakfast from The Fatted Calf before we headed out to see all the local vendors!
Daddy feeding John Thomas his breakfast before ours arrived!
Koen helped Benjamin complete his coloring sheet!
We got a good laugh out of Abe enjoying his first lemon! Love all his facial expressions!

They had a great kid's area with lots of games and activities for Koen.  He started on this neat ladder that was suspended from the end of an inflatable and he had to climb it to the top without falling off!  It took a few tries of being thrown off, but he did finally make it to the top!

The next challenge he chose was a giant palm tree, he mastered climbing to the top in no time!

We had a great time enjoying the weather and live music, not to mention great food!

Waiting on Koen to finish his games!  John Thomas was resting for a bit!

Taking a break in the shade!

We love having Ken and Mandy close by!  I can't wait for John Thomas to grow up with his three cousins that are all within a year of each other!
After walking the festival and going in many shops downtown, we decided to take a little break and enjoy some ice cream and snacks at the Malt Shop!  I didn't have a hot dog, but from what I understand, they were amazing!  As were the root beer floats, vanilla shakes and candy :)  I chose banana pudding ice cream and it was yummy!

Sure love this boy!  Even if he is going to eat us out of house and home!

Love this big boy, too!

On every shake/float, they put these little animals on the side of the cup.  I thought they were super cute!
We love living in a town where we rarely have to leave to find something fun to do as a family!  Thankful the Lord continues to bless our lives!
